Biography

John Rawlins's amazing vision and attention to detail were the driving forces behind his success as a director. He wrote gags for screen comedies. He directed mostly B-action films during the late 1930s. He spent the last 30 years of his life developing property at Newport Beach. Rawlins worked on a variety of projects during his early entertainment career, including "Above the Clouds" (1933), "Mills of the Gods" (1935) and "Shadows of Sing Sing" (1934). He also contributed to "The Bargain" (1931), "The Defense Rests" (1934) and "The Line-Up" (1934). He continued to work in film in the thirties, directing motion pictures like "State Police" (1938), "Young Fugitives" (1938) and the crime flick "The Missing Guest" (1938) with Paul Kelly. In the latter part of his career, Rawlins directed "Overland Mail" (1942), the adventure "Arabian Nights" (1942) with Jon Hall and "Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror" (1942). He also appeared in the drama "Ladies Courageous" (1944) with Loretta Young and "Sudan" (1945). Rawlins more recently appeared in "Terminal Virus" (Showtime, 1995-96). Rawlins passed away in May 1997 at the age of 95.
