Synopsis

Pearl fisher and owner of a Malayan island Jim Wilson encounters his nemesis, Jack Sheldon, while in San Francisco, and for a second time, Jack tries to cheat him in a card game. Jim soundly trounces Sheldon, and when he later meets Sheldon's girl friend, Eve Blake, he offers to marry her to legitimate her child. She reluctantly consents and Jim gifts her with money and an expensive black pearl, after which he returns to his island. After Sheldon robs Eve, Jim's business partner, Rance Danvers, finds Eve's child alone and, believing him to have been abandoned, takes him to Jim's Malayan island. Eve is released from a hospital after being injured trying to chase Sheldon, and determines to find her child. She works in a nightclub and earns passage to Singapore, then, in an effort to discover Jim's whereabouts, she obtains a job in a bar frequented by sailors. Although she locates Jim, he believes she is an unfit mother and refuses to let her see her child. Finally, Rance allows her to visit on the condition that she leave the island before Jim returns. As she leaves, she sees Sheldon and a gang preparing to attack and returns in time to warn Rance, who is seriously wounded in the ensuing battle. Eve saves Rance from a second shooting and holds Sheldon and his men hostage, after which Jim realizes that she has been victimized by Sheldon all along. Rance dies from his wounds and Eve stays as Jim's wife.
