Synopsis

Penfield Sturgis, a priggish minister, is prejudiced against stage actors and from his pulpit denounces as immoral Jane Bartlett, a prima donna opera singer whom he does not know. He even prints an editorial against her in the town newspaper. She thinks that the reverend is a foolish youth, and to disprove his allegations she charms him into falling in love with her by her straightforward feminine manner. She proves to him that she is a perfectly respectable woman and that the acting profession is a legitimate one. As her future husband, Sturgis publishes a public retraction of his derogatory comments in the newspaper. Jane, who really does not love Penfield, cancels their engagement so that he will be free to marry Georgine, a conventional young girl better suited to his small town needs.
