Synopsis

Nello, a "little Ardennois," saves the life of a dog but returns home to find his aged grandfather, his last remaining relative, dead. Forced from the cottage, he lives with the dog under a haystack until he is blamed for a fire and is to be sent away. Then an artist, Van Dullan, announces a drawing contest in the village. Nello wins the prize and the affections of the artist, who adopts him.
