Synopsis

Albert Whalen, known as "Binky," is a lonely, sentimental youth who operates an elevator in an apartment house owned by Cleaver. His employer leaves for California for the Christmas holiday, and Binky's sweetheart, Annie Jackson, a poor orphan, visits him; they go to Coney Island to loll on the beach, and there they talk about the future and fall asleep. Toward dawn they are awakened by the tide and return home, wet and cold. When Annie develops pneumonia and is taken to the hospital, Binky spends his last penny to buy her a cheap coat. He takes her to Cleaver's luxurious apartment to recuperate, and Cleaver surprises them by returning unexpectedly on Christmas Eve. Binky tells this story to a judge in night court; he dismisses the case, putting Cleaver to shame for spoiling the couple's happiness; and Mr. Jesse, who befriends them, sees to their future.
