Synopsis

In the Indian wars of the 1870's, the Comanches unite to trap a Cavalry unit on the Plain of Tonopah. Because the Indians also control a pass leading to the besieged men, rescue troops must take a longer route. Then Nicoma, an Indian girl, brings word from a mission that the pass is open. A patrol headed by scout Johnny Hawk rides out to check on the story and talk to the rescue party. En route to the mission they meet a band of hostile Indians, and only Johnny Hawk, Sergeant Chaney, Nicoma, and one trooper survive. Arriving at the mission, they find the pastor slain and his daughter Sarah in shock; but she confirms that the pass is open, and Johnny Hawk and his men, after leaving Sarah in a safe place, set out to divert the rescue party. The group find a store of ammunition gathered by the Indians, and Nicoma sets the explosives but perishes in the explosion. The men continue, and once more they meet the Comanches. Johnny kills the chief, however, and makes his way across the mountains to the relief column and delivers the information that saves the trapped unit.
