Synopsis

An international jetliner is blown off course during a typhoon and forced to land in the trackless jungles of equatorial South America. Thanks to the skills of pilots Wade Cochran and Dino Doretti, no one is injured, but they are unable to summon help because the plane's radio has been badly damaged. Among the passengers are Ben Barstow, a writer-explorer in search of his lost sister; Rita Brown, an attractive liquor saleswoman; Joan Simon, a neurotic schoolteacher; Pete Patton, a pop singer; Danny O'Neill, an alcoholic comedian; and Francisco Rivera, a convicted murderer being transported back to his native country for execution. Rivera kills his police escort, but he himself is mortally wounded by Cochran while trying to escape. Meanwhile, Barstow learns that the crash took place in the area where his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Weatherly, disappeared. He and Rita set out in the hope of finding them, but they are captured by natives who bring them before the tribal witch doctor--the now insane Dr. Weatherly. After informing Barstow that his sister is dead, Weatherly prepares to offer Rita and Barstow as human sacrifices to Lokiti, the god of evil. But a friendly tribe rescues them, and Barstow slays Weatherly with a machete. By this time the radio has been repaired and helicopters are arriving to return the stranded group to civilization.
