Synopsis

Bob Millbourne watches as his family is murdered by Blake and his gang, who want to gain control of their gold claim. Before his father dies, Bob promises him to refrain from resorting to violence if he can fight Blake legally. True to his promise, Bob studies law and returns years later under the assumed name of Bob Mills to find the man who murdered his parents. Bob finds that Blake now rules the community by intimidation, his nefarious dealings unchecked by the law since he has beaten Judge Bennett into submission. He learns that Blake is forcing the miners to bring their gold to his mill for stamping, and then paying them with checks that they must cash at his general store for a hefty fee. Bob tries to stop this, but his witnesses are intimidated by Blake's men and refuse to cooperate. Bob finds his job even more complicated when he begins to fall in love with Jane, the judge's daughter. To circumvent Blake's demands that the gold be brought to his mill for stamping, Bob tells the miners to take it to another mill some distance away. When violence fails to stop the miners, Blake has the judge rule that the miners have broken their contract with him by transferring the gold to another mill, therefore entitling him to seize their property. Finally awakening to Blake's ruthlessness, the judge tells Bob of a statute that limits the size of mining claims, therefore nullifying Blake's right to seize the land. A race then ensues between Blake and the miners to reclaim the land, in the course of which Bennett is killed. Before he dies, he reveals that he had no part in the murder of Bob's parents and that he was coerced into doing Blake's dirty work. With Bob's resourcefulness, the miners refile claims on their land, and justice is served when Blake is brought to trial for the murder of Bob's parents.
