Synopsis
Learning that an Indian uprising is imminent because of the murder of a tribesman by a renegade white, Jack, a rider for the Overland Mail, convinces the Indians to give him three days to turn over the murderer to them before they start their war. On his ride back to town, Jack's horse is shot out from under him, forcing him to board the stage. On board he meets Mary, who is on her way to town to work in Polini's dance hall; Porter, a whiskey salesman; and Duke, a suspicious looking character. In town, Jack persuades Mary not to work for Polini, and finds her a job in a lunch room instead. Jack is reluctant to have Mary work for Polini because he suspects that the saloon owner is running a counterfeiting ring that is using the mails to transport "funny" money. Jack is unaware, however, that Porter, a federal agent who is posing as a whiskey salesman, is also on the trail of the counterfeiters, and is following Duke, who is bringing new counterfeiting dyes to Polini. To substantiate his suspicions, Jack rides out to Polini's ranch and there finds evidence that Polini killed the Indian. Jack is discovered at the ranch, but escapes and rides back to town. Polini, now aware that Jack suspects him of counterfeiting, sends his men to town to retrieve the latest packet of mail. In the meantime, Mary has quit her job and has gone to work for Polini, who takes her prisoner when she learns too much about his racket. Jack beats Polini's men to the mail and, accompanied by the law, goes to arrest Polini. A fight ensues in which Jack captures Polini and turns him over to the Indians, thus averting a war. He then discovers that Mary is an undercover agent who was working with Porter to apprehend the counterfeiters.
