Synopsis

Georgie Jessel, a Jewish jeweler's son from the Bronx, wants to break into show business. After being turned down by several theatrical managers, he makes plans to put on a show of his own by renting a neighborhood theater for one night. Georgie sells tickets to friends and neighbors, but there is not enough money to pay the full rent and he must call off the show. Humiliated, Georgie goes to San Francisco, where he becomes a success singing in a nightclub and falls in love with Eleanor Ellis. When his mother falls ill, Georgie returns to the East and becomes a star in a Broadway musical comedy. After a special kindness to Eleanor's mother, Georgie receives her long-withheld permission to marry Eleanor, thereby making his happiness complete.
