Synopsis

Luigi, an Italian immigrant, settles down in Little Italy in New York City and falls in love with Margharita, whose uncle gives him a job in his music store. Luigi is recalled to Italy by his father's illness, and, becoming embroiled in the early stages of the war, goes to the Austro-Italian front. During the war, he is blinded and spends three years in a prison camp; returning to the United States, he finds that Margharita, thinking Luigi killed, has married her employer, Dr. Price. An operation by the doctor cures Luigi's blindness, and the girl plans to tell her husband of her love for Luigi. Luigi, however, realizing that the revelation would destroy her happiness, goes to live with his friend Pasquale.
