Synopsis

Inspector Gordon and Sergeant Phelan of Scotland Yard are alerted to a wave of fraudulent checks given to people who sell their cars. Junk yard owner Alvero Belda, his assistant Sammy, and American John Edgar operate a nearly foolproof car racket. After Ian Lethbridge dies in a car crash, Belda obtains the wreckage, gives a woman a bad check for the same model car, exchanges the plates, paints it the same color as the wrecked car, and puts the car, with its corresponding papers, up for sale. A member of the mob, mechanic Ted-o, is caught with Belda's mistress and beaten. For revenge, Ted-o kills Belda and witness Edgar. Ted-o uses the prepared car for a weekend trip with his girl friend, Laura, but Lethbridge's father spots what he thinks is his son's car--using the unusual license plate number KIL 1 (the initials of his son)--and reports it to Gordon, now aware of the operation. Trying to evade a police roadblock, Ted-o and Laura are killed when the car goes over a cliff.
