Synopsis

A hard-working though neglectful husband, Gordon Allen has a wife named Dorothy who is bored with her marriage. She accompanies her friend Evelyn to a farm for a summer vacation and there uses her feminine wiles on Jed, a handsome but romantically naïve farmer. She engages in what she thinks will be a harmless flirtation, but Jed takes it seriously. His devoted sister Mary tries to break up the relationship but is unsuccessful until Jed realizes the true situation when Gordon surprises Dorothy and kisses her. Jed fights Gordon and then becomes so distraught that he kills himself. Mary vows to reap vengeance on Dorothy by pretending to fall in love with Gordon. She gets a job as his secretary but in arousing Gordon, she kindles her own feelings. Ten years pass and Dorothy is gravely injured by a race car at the motor races, while Mary is only grazed. Although the love between Mary and Gordon hastens Dorothy's death, she begs their forgiveness and urges the lovers to remain together.
