Synopsis

Wealthy contractor Michael Arnold hires civil engineer Jerry Foster to work on a dam he is constructing in the West. He has ambitions to make his mark in society and encourages his daughter, Alice, to marry Lafayette Van Renselaer, a blueblooded young dandy. Alice is attracted to Jerry but mistakes his friendship with Kathleen O'Toole for love. Meanwhile, Van Renselaer has been having an affair with Kathleen but drops her when he has an opportunity to wed Alice. He imputes that Jerry has been trifling with Kathleen's affections. Jerry finally uncovers the conspiracy and in a showdown beats up and fires Swazey, the bullying foreman, who then runs amok, releasing the water in the reservoir and causing a flood. Van Renselaer drowns, but Jerry saves Alice and wins her hand.
