Synopsis
When Mexican millionaire Don Manuel Ortega discovers that his son Ramon is performing with The Hoosier Hot Shots band at the notorious Hotshot nightclub, he insists that he quit the show immediately. Ramon disobeys his father, and further angers him when he refuses to go through with a pre-arranged marriage to singer Dolores de Garfias. As a result, Don Manuel threatens to cut Ramon out of his will. Determined to help Ramon keep his inheritance, The Hot Shots devise a plan to have Hezzy, an unattractive member of the band, impersonate Ramon and present himself to Dolores as her new fiancé. Ramon and The Hot Shots hope that Dolores will call off the wedding when she meets Hezzy, and that Ramon's father will then stop insisting that Ramon marry. Dolores, meanwhile, discovers that her father, Don José, has no money, so she takes a singing job with Mamacita, who is opening the Charro Café in the town of Santa Rosa. En route to Santa Rosa, Dolores is nearly hit by Ramon's car, and a quarrel ensues. Dolores and Ramon part as strangers, and Dolores, who is using the name Rose later sings for the guests at the opening of the café. Dolores soon falls in love with Ramon, who is using the name Ezekiah Huggins, unaware that he is the man she is meant to marry. When Hezzy and his pals arrive at Don José's hacienda, Dolores' eccentric aunt Isabel quickly befriends them and plays music with them. Though she finds Hezzy unattractive, Dolores accepts his marriage proposal in the hopes of saving Mamacita's café from financial ruin. Confusion abounds at Don José's hacienda when Don Manuel arrives expecting to find his son courting Dolores. Instead, Don Manuel learns that Dolores has left to marry Hezzy. A short time later, Ramon is arrested and charged with forgery when he tries to cash a check using his real name. After breaking out of jail, Ramon goes to the Charro Café, where he takes the stage and gives the performance of his life. The café soon draws plenty of customers, and Dolores and Mamacita donate their profits to Don José. When Dolores and Ramon finally learn each others' true identity, they embrace and seal their love with a kiss.
