Synopsis

Lacking references, stenographer Mary Wayne finds it impossible to gain employment. Consequently, when her friend Nell Norcross, hired as secretary to elderly socialite Caroline Marshall, falls ill, she suggests that Mary impersonate her. Seizing upon the opportunity, Mary soon finds herself installed as private secretary to Caroline's roughneck nephew William. One of her first tasks consists of bailing her employer out of jail. Later, when William insists upon inviting boxer Kid Whaley to his aunt's social gathering, the Kid causes such a scandal that the Marshalls are obliged to absent themselves on a cruise until the affair blows over. Bill continues to get into scrapes and Mary continues to bail him out, until they discover that they cannot get along without each other. Mary finally admits her deception but is forgiven by Aunt Caroline who offers the couple her blessings.
