Synopsis
Young novelist Everett Hale refuses to consider leading actress Mavis Marberry for the role of a street waif in the play adapted from his novel. Piqued at his obstinacy, Mavis decides to "show him" and, donning a ragged disguise, meets the writer in a dance hall where she is posing as the waif Chicken Casey. Her realism deceives Hale, and he begins a well meaning campaign to rescue the wretched little outcast, which ends when he makes her the star in his play. After her performance, Mavis reveals her true identity, and Hale forgives her for her deception, making her the leading lady in both his life and his play.
