Synopsis

Myra Burgess, a bored society heiress who longs for adventure, throws a note out of her window offering $100 to the person who brings it back to her. Mike Smagg, a coal heaver, finds the note and comes to collect his reward; Myra is taken with him and, rigging him out as a gentleman, introduces him into society as an eccentric professor. Mike's abrupt charm and rough manner endear him to the ladies, and he soon becomes a social lion; when he no longer will submit to Myra's prompting, however, she exposes his lowly origins, leading to his complete expulsion from high society. He returns to his former life for a while, then abducts Myra in his coal wagon and takes her to a minister to be married.
