Synopsis
Don Alfredo, a scheming Spanish nobleman, plans to steal the lands of his neighbor, Don Miguel, and marry his worthless son, Luis, to Don Miguel's daughter, Dolores. The plan is foiled by Steven Bancroft, a United States land agent engaged in encouraging the grandees of the new State of California to register their land holdings with the government. Accompanied by two friends disguised as caballeros, Bancroft, who has fallen in love with Dolores, raids the hacienda where she is about to be forced into marriage. After freeing the captive Don Miguel, they turn Don Alfredo and his son over to authorities and continue the wedding, with Bancroft taking the place of the bridegroom.
