Synopsis

On New York's East Side, Jacob Solomon and Michael Brennon are partners in a cigar store. Michael dies, and his son, Robert, is adopted by Jacob and becomes a successful physician in the neighborhood. He meets and falls in love with Jane Stoddard, a wealthy society girl, and after their marriage she induces him to forsake his East Side friends and open a Fifth Avenue practice. Jacob is heartbroken when he is snubbed by Robert and does not reveal that he mortgaged his home to pay for Robert's education. Robert and his wife quarrel when her friends discover that Jacob is the young physician's foster father; returning to his home, Robert finds that Jacob has lost everything. There is a reconciliation between them, and Robert moves back to the East Side. His wife acknowledges the mistake she has made and is forgiven by Robert.
