Synopsis

A television movie based on a true story about Joyce Mattox, a Louisiana millworker. Bored with her humdrum life, she joins a Bible study group that visits prisoners housed at the nearby state penitentiary. There she meets Jesse Glen Smith, and a mutual attraction begins. Their relationship becomes more intense during her frequent visits. Jesse convinces Joyce to help him escape. She hijacks a helicopter, forcing the pilot to land inside the prison yard, where Smith is waiting. Joyce's new life with Jesse lasts only a short time, until their capture a few days after the escape.
