Synopsis

Tom Gerrin is a plain spoken Kansan who has lived a simple and ordinary life. At the age of 75, he finds he has little to look forward to beyond retiring with his son and overly protective daughter-in-law. A letter from his old flame Veronica, suddenly has him wondering if he hasn't given up too easily on life. He decides to pay Veronica a visit and soon finds himself on the road with Leanne Bossert, a free-spirited young woman. Together they set off on a hitchhiking expedition to California, where Tom will visit Veronica and Leanne will return to her ailing father.
