Synopsis

Special based on the Scholastic book series that tells fictional stories about heroic young women during important periods in American history. Zippy, a 12-year-old Russian-Jewish girl and her family struggle to adjust to their new lives in turn-of-the-century New York City. When her older sister marries a non-Jewish man and runs contrary to her mother's determination to preserve the family's Orthodox Jewish way of life, it's up to this brave young woman to help bring her family back together. Zippy helps to achieve this as she falls in love with the theater and begins to dream of becoming a great actress.
