Synopsis
Miniseries based on Frank Herbert's 1965 novel, telling the story of Paul, who lives in a world tenuously balanced by the universal need for the life-sustaining substance "Spice," the most precious commodity in the universe. When Paul's father, Duke Leto, is ordered to oversee production of Spice, his family must relocate to Dune -- a desert planet and the sole source of the substance. It is widely believed among the Houses of the Empire that he who controls the Spice controls the Empire. When Leto is assassinated, Paul and his mother, a Bene Gesserit witch with mysterious powers of mind control, escape into the desert where they are taken in by the Fremen, a fierce desert people. They believe that Paul may be the messiah of their legends, leading them in a great war and bringing life back to their desert planet. Under his mother's tutelage, Paul hones his own considerable Bene Gesserit gifts, and begins to see the future and realize his far-reaching ability to shape it.
