Synopsis
Documentary about genealogy, an exercise in personal history. Thanks to Internet databases, researching family history no longer takes years of research. The program follows professional and amateur genealogists as they reach back through time to discover their personal history. Actor William Baldwin traces his family's roots back to 1638. Screenwriter Randall Wallace's interest in learning about his Scottish surname becomes an important factor in inspiring him to write the screenplay of Braveheart. African-American Rohulamin Quander unlocks his family's history by discovering the evolution of his name. DNA testing has also become critical to clearing up facts about kinship mysteries, such as whether Thomas Jefferson fathered slave descendants, and whether or not Queen Victoria was illegitimate.
