Biography

British actress Jane Merrow had a substantial run as a popular supporting player in films and series through the '60s and '70s. Born in London, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before finding small parts in TV and stage productions, including the George Bernard Shaw play "Arms and the Man." She played the title role in the miniseries "Lorna Doone" and another top spot in her first big feature, "The Girl-Getters," opposite Oliver Reed. Further parts followed in horror films such as "Island of the Burning Damned" with Christopher Lee and the popular shows "The Prisoner" and "The Avengers." However, her most memorable role came as the mistress of King Henry II in the star-fueled epic "The Lion in Winter," featuring Katharine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, for which Merrow earned a Golden Globe nomination. This success propelled her to Hollywood, where she'd spend 20 years playing starring guest roles in numerous hit series including "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "Hart to Hart." In the early '90s, she returned to England, while continuing to appear in the occasional series and dabbling in writing and producing.
