Celebrated for a "candy-cane" sense of style, Texas-born designer Todd Oldham has brought his fresh, colorful touch to fashion, interior design, furniture, photography and graphic art. Currently the host of Top Design on TV's Bravo, Oldham also has lent his talents to MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Warner Bros., Target and La-Z-Boy.
To host Robert Osborne, Oldham explains that his first programming choice, the film version of the Neil Simon Broadway comedy Barefoot in the Park (1967), is "a remarkable little time capsule of New York." The Philadelphia Story (1940), which Oldham says he has seen "maybe 50 times," is "plush and luscious," with images that look as if they are "being projected onto satin."
In introducing a somewhat dubious Osborne to the stylistic charms of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965), Oldham claims the film to be Russ Meyer's Citizen Kane "an exquisite work of art" that has provided inspiration for some of his own fashion designs! Coming from farming stock in West Texas, Oldham appreciates the convincing ambiance of Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show (1971), as well as its "astonishing" performances.
