In a fictional English town on the day of the armistice ending the the First World War, amnesiac soldier Ronald Colman has wandered free from the local psychiatric hospital, meeting shopkeeper Una O’Connor, then friendly co-star Greer Garson, her first scene, in MGM’s Random Harvest, 1942.

Director Mervyn Leroy’s opening, narration by James Hilton, author of the novel, we meet psychiatrist Dr. Benet (Philip Dorn), Arthur Space as patient Trempitt, and Ronald Colman as Smith, surely the handsomest amnesiac on the ward, in MGM’s Random Harvest, 1942, also starring Greer Garson.
