Pulp

A local political campaign in the background, gangster Dinuccio (Lionel Stander) is filling in hired hard-boiled fiction writer Mickey (Michael Caine) on the ghost writing job, Lizabeth Scott, in her first movie for 15 years, staging events outside, in Mike Hodges' Pulp, 1972.
