Oregon, 1872, merchant Crackel (Elisha Cook Jr.) hurries to tell troublesom Modoc war chief Captain Jack (Charles Bronson) of the new peace negotiator sent from Washington (Alan Ladd, who also co-produced, as Mackay), tangling also with military veteran and rancher Meek (Richard Cutting), in Delmer Daves Drum Beat, 1954.
