Dublin, ca. 1911, Cassidy (Rod Taylor, in a role based on the author Sean O'Casey) has written the flyers being handed out at an Irish workers' rally, British cops arrive, he flees with new friend Daisy (Julie Christie), in Young Cassidy, 1965.

In Dublin, ca. 1910, Rod Taylor (title character, an aspiring writer) and mother (Flora Robson) receive sister Ella (Sian Phillips), mother of five, whose husband ?Drummer? is now institutionalized, then he meets book store clerk Nora (Maggie Smith), in Young Cassidy, 1965, based on the life of playwright Sean O?Casey.

Cassidy (Rod Taylor, his role based on writer Sean O'Casey) learns of another death, commiserates with Mick (Philip O'Flynn) then joins fellow Irish rebels (Eddie Golden as "Captain White"), in 1911 Dublin, in Young Cassidy, 1965, directed by Jack Cardiff, who replaced the ailing John Ford.
