Escape

Jim (Paul Muni), having just slipped his shackles, bent by a fellow inmate, makes his first escape, fleeing hounds, stealing laundry and breathing through a reed in another famous sequence from director Mervyn LeRoy's I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang, 1932.

One of the momentous cuts for which director David Lean is known, British and Japanese officers Clipton and Miura (James Donald, Keiichiro Katsumoto) lament the conflict between their superiors, then the climax of the escape attempt by American prisoner Shears (William Holden), in The Bridge on the River Kwai, (1957).
