Sissi

Shooting in and around the Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna, domineering Princess Sophie (Vilma Desgischer) informs her son the new emperor Franz Joseph (Karl Boehm) of her plans for his marriage, in the first film in the box-office hit German-Austrian series, Sissi, 1955, starring Romy Schneider.

Pursued by the neurotic security man (Josef Meinrad), Elisabeth (Romy Schneider, title character) has escaped her minders and is not recognized by the young Emperor Franz Joseph (Karl Boehm), as the sister of his fianceè, shooting on location at Bad Ischl, Austria, in Sissi, 1955.

Shot on location at St. Michael’s church in Vienna, though the event took place at the nearby Augustinian church, the climax of the first film in the series, Romy Schneider the title character, Duchess Elisabeth of Bavaria, marries Emperor Franz Joseph (Karl Boehm), with Handel’s Messiah, in Sissi, 1955.
