Sallah

With a truck driver (uncredited) explaining about a Kibbutz, Yemeni refugee Topol (title character) and family arrive at an Israeli government camp in 1949, Esther Greenberg the wife, in writer-director Ephraim Kishon's international hit comedy Sallah, 1964.

The filmmakers are unconcerned about opening a story set in 1949 with a jet that didn't fly until 1960, introducing Topol as the title character with his refugee family from Yemen, arriving in Israel, in what became the most successful film ever made in Israel, Sallah, 1964.

Leading Israeli actress Gila Almagor (In her first movie) is Bat-Sheva, from the relatively prosperous nearby Kibbutz which has voted to "adopt" the refugee camp, having a difficult interview with Topol, the cranky and lazy title character, in Sallah, 1964.
