Rich Eisen Profile
Although a self-described "football guy," Eisen selects a variety of other sports as the subjects of his programming picks. He tells host Robert Osborne that the basketball film Hoosiers (1986) is one of his favorites, "a David vs. Goliath story, a story of redemption, and one of those movies where it's okay for a guy to cry." Sylvester Stallone's original Rocky (1976) is "a love story that just happens to involve boxing" and "the ultimate rags-to-riches sports movie."
Eisen acknowledges that baseball has a "lyrical aspect" not found in football, and says of The Natural (1984): "I- love-this-movie!" This story of an aging pitcher (Robert Redford) struggling to realize his dream "hits every chord, pitch perfect and head on." If the golf comedy Caddyshack (1980) is a guilty pleasure, Eisen says with a smile that he pleads "guilty." Actually, he believes the film reflects "genius on so many different levels" and is "one of the funniest movies you'll ever see."
