Synopsis
In 17th-century Japan, two foster brothers react differently to a law banning swordplay, even as a sport. Tenzen is proud of his swordsmanship and considers the law an injustice, while Chojuro quietly obeys the ban. Bored and restless, Tenzen develops a technique of lopping off his opponents' thumbs, disabling them for combat. His family, including his fiancée, are angered by his behavior, and he is driven from his home to a life of banditry in the hills. To rescue the family honor and see that justice is done, Chojuro goes after his brother and meets him in a duel.
