Synopsis

On the first day of his job with an automobile company, Yuichi is late for work. However, the directors of the firm are pleased with his excuse: he helped an elderly man and his daughter, Setsuko, find a taxi. Yuichi meets Setsuko again, but this time she is with Ishiyama, his old school friend who works for a rival business. An important customer for Yuichi's company cancels his contract after hearing that the cars' motors are defective, and both Yuichi and Ishiyama are sent to the man's home in Hokkaido to investigate. There, Yuichi meets the customer's daughter Midori, and although not romantically attracted to her, he realizes that by seeing her often he can gain access to her father. Setsuko hears of Yuichi's scheme and grows jealous. Eventually, the reports on the defects are found to be false, and Yuichi and Ishiyama return to Tokyo with new orders. Setsuko meets them and, given a choice, decides on Yuichi.
