Synopsis
Pop Conlan, the whimsical, alcoholic dean of janitors at Princeton University, arranges for Jimmy Duffy, an orphan, to be enrolled in the freshman class and thereafter keeps a close eye on him, helping him to become an honor student. During his sophomore year, Jimmy gets in with a fast crowd and meets a showgirl named Fay at a drunken carnival in Trenton; later, after a quarrel with Fay, Jimmy gets drunk and is accused of losing the class funds at the gambling tables. Pop helps Jimmy out of this jam and sees him through the rest of his college career. Upon graduation, Jimmy marries Fay, never learning that Pop is his real father, who, years earlier, placed him in an orphanage in an effort to break the family curse of alcoholism.
