Synopsis

Under orders of Captain Charley Carter, head of the Texas Rangers, Tom Logan poses as outlaw Dan Bishop, in order to infiltrate a gang of robbers terrorizing Texas. He holds up a stagecoach and hides the money, then allows himself to be caught by the bandits, whose own robbery he foiled. After meeting with their leader, Milton Keefe, he arranges to bring Keefe half of the payroll in exchange for becoming part of the gang. Keefe's second-in-command, Gore Hampton, orders four men to follow Tom and kill him, so he can get the credit for stealing the money. Tom outwits them, however, and has them arrested by the Rangers. He returns to Keefe with the money and then leaves, changing his disguise to look like a Mexican. On his way into town he meets Nancy Keefe, who is unaware of her brother's misdeeds. Nancy recognizes Tom as Bishop from a picture on a poster but, believing he wants to go straight, does not report his presence. Tom rides into town with Nancy and discovers that Keefe runs the general store and is friends with the banker, Chester Bigelow. Tom is recognized and chased out of town. Meanwhile, Keefe finds out that because of the stagecoach robberies, the stage will not be picking up another shipment from the bank, which holds $250,000. Back at the hideout, he warns Tom not to associate with Nancy and reveals his delusions of grandeur, likening himself to many great historical figures. Keefe sends Tom and the gang to rob the bank, but orders Hampton to kill Tom during the robbery. Tom survives, but Hampton and Keefe escape. Keefe, however, sets up Hampton to be arrested by the sheriff's posse, then tries to shoot Tom, but is himself killed by the posse. Nancy finally discovers the truth about her brother, but finds comfort in Tom.
