Sunset of Power
Cast & Crew
Neil Brannum, a ranch owner, brings his granddaughter Ruth to his ranch from the East where she has been attending school. He resents the fact that his only grandchild is a girl and treats her harshly, determined that she will not end up a weakling like her dead father. Meanwhile, cowhand Cliff Lea and his friends Red and Coley accidentally come upon Indian Joe tying a steer in preparation for branding him. Cliff warns him away, but Bud Rolfe, who was waiting in the background, is convinced Cliff knows something about the plans he shares with Page Cothran to rustle Brannum's cattle. Bud and Page decide to get rid of Cliff before he can make trouble for them. Completely deceived, Neil makes Page his foreman and encourages him to propose to Ruth. While riding with Page, Ruth is thrown from her horse, and Cliff carries her into the house. As punishment for interfering, Page sends Cliff away to dig post holes for a new fence which gives Cliff a chance to do some scouting. He discovers the rustlers and witnesses Page joining them. He does not realize that they are plotting his murder, and when he returns later than expected, another man is killed in his place. Back at the ranch, Neil insists that Page and Ruth get married immediately. She sends a note to Cliff, begging for his help, only to learn that he has fled the ranch in fear for his life. That night, however, a Spaniard, dressed in a black cape, kidnaps Ruth and carries her away to a hidden cabin where she finds Cliff waiting for her. She soon realizes that Cliff and the Spaniard are the same person and apologizes for doubting his courage. Aided by a storekeeper, Cliff meets with Neil. He questions Indian Joe so cleverly that Neil is soon convinced that Page is behind the rustlers. He and Cliff round up Page and his men, and during the ensuing fight, Neil is seriously wounded. He makes Cliff his new foreman and tells Ruth that all his meanness was a ruse to get Cliff to show his real colors and make Ruth love him.
