Synopsis

While waiting twenty-three years for a business deal to come through, Brown lets his wife and two children support him. Living with them are his in-laws, who insult him often. Ashamed, Brown leaves, and it is believed he is dead. The family continues to live as before, but an old suitor begins to court Brown's wife again. Wandering in the desert, Brown finds a deposit of radium and strikes it rich. When he returns home, he buys a nightclub owned by a man who has been making advances to his daughter, a dancer, who already has a boyfriend. Brown frightens the suitor away, and now that he has money, he buys new clothes for his forgiving family.

Notes

According to information contained in the New York State Archives censorship material, the title of the film was changed to Night Club Girl soon after it was submitted to the agency for review. The Variety review indicates that the picture was billed as the first installment in what was to be the Brown Family series, Million Dollar Productions' "colored counterpart of the Hardy's, Joneses and other film family groups." No further Brown Family films were made.
