Synopsis

After serving a 1-year sentence in a Yuma prison because of his association with Joe Harbin, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his partner, Kid Rodelo sets out to retrieve $50,000 in gold which Harbin hid before his capture. Meanwhile, Harbin and another convict, Thomas Reese, escape from prison and set out to reach the gold before The Kid. The Kid is picked up along the road by Link, his girl friend, Nora, and his partner, Balsas, who keep their own interest in the gold a secret. The Kid leads his three companions to the deserted town where the gold is hidden. While Nora distracts The Kid, Link and Balsas find a chest and argue over the division of its contents. The greedy Balsas shoots Link but discovers that the case contains only rocks. Harbin and Reese arrive in town with another escaped convict, Gopher, trailed by Cavalry Hat, a Yaqui Indian chief, and his tribe of bounty hunters. Balsas shoots Reese and arranges to exclude The Kid from the division of the gold, which Harbin has at last removed from its hiding place. The Kid thwarts their plan, however, and offers to lead them to the Gulf of Mexico in exchange for a share of the gold. After the Indians poison a waterhole, Gopher is killed trying to steal Harbin's water. The Kid tricks the Indians to enable the group to escape, but Harbin and Balsas decide to flee with the gold. Harbin tells Nora that The Kid has been killed, and she sets out for the Gulf with the two men. Once there, they find no boats in which to flee; and Harbin shoots Balsas in a gunfight. With the Indians following close behind, The Kid catches up with Nora and Harbin. Harbin tries to kill The Kid but is shot by Cavalry Hat. The Kid kills the Indian chief, and as the tribe carries Harbin's body away, Nora and The Kid return to civilization with the gold.
