Synopsis

The life of the Duke of Wellington is traced from the Congress to Vienna in 1815 to the second Bourbon restoration in Paris. Along with his great successes, the duke encounters such setbacks as the attempt by the Duchess of Angouleme, the scheming daughter of Marie Antionette, to discredit him by threatening to reveal his romance with a married woman. After his success in defeating Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, Wellington returns to England only to be attacked by peers in the House of Lords for his failure to secure greater reparations for England.
