Synopsis

Bill Manning and Fred Curtis, two gangsters on the run from the law, are hiding out at a construction camp when they notice a striking resemblance between George Storm, the newly arrived engineer from South America, and their boss, Tom Farrow. Hitting upon a clever scheme, the three crooks plan to rob the payroll truck, frame Storm for the job and get away clean. The theft goes as planned, and Storm is arrested for the robbery. At Storm's trial, Farrow's wife Patricia testifies so convincingly that Storm is her husband, that the innocent engineer is mistaken for the notorious bank robber and sentenced to twenty years in jail. In prison, Storm is befriended by the convict Conway, who, believing that Storm is a big bank robber, includes him in a jailbreak he has planned. While hiding in the jungle surrounding the prison, Conway demands a share of Storm's money, and when Storm denies having any, a fight ensues. As the fugitives struggle, the guards catch up with them and shoot Conway. Storm, knocked into the underbrush by one of Conway's blows, eludes the police and finds work as a waiter in a cheap lunchroom, where he meets Louie, an old colleague of Farrows', who, thinking that Storm is Farrow, accuses him of a double-cross. As the pair come to blows, the police are alerted, and Storm is arrested. Meanwhile, Farrow, unaware that Storm has been apprehended, comes out of hiding to rob a bank. As the district attorney questions Storm, news of Farrow's hold-up is flashed over the radio, giving credence to Storm's claims of innocence. Storm's recollection that Louie mentioned the names of Curtis and Manning results in the pair being brought in for questioning, and under interrogation, Manning admits that Storm is not Farrow. Assured of a pardon, Storm helps the government agents track down Farrow and his gang, and in a blazing gun battle, Farrow and his henchmen are killed.
