Cast & Crew
Tiago and his unnamed master are on a road trip through rural Portugal, their destination never stated. They carry on philosophical conversations in which Tiago argues repeatedly to his skeptical master that "Everything good or bad that happens to us 'down here' is written 'up there'," despite the fact that he continues to make very proactive, yet very erratic decisions--stealing food from clients at a brothel, for example. This rogue and his master endure a series of ostensibly disconnected incidents on their travels as, all the while, an impertinent Tiago tells stories of his past, notably about his captain from military service and his very first love. Meanwhile, an omnipotent narrator comments wryly on their adventures and who has grown tired of her, an aristocratic woman unsuccessfully engineers a scandal, covertly setting the man up with a young beauty he does not realize is a prostitute.
