Synopsis

A trio of unconnected stories, each running for approximately half an hour, which comprise a grim collective vision of Hungary as the century draws to a close: "Fire! Fire!" presents a vision of Budapest as a hellish, dank place where homeless people wander aimlessly and fight one another over a slice of bread; "Hungarian Pizza" shows, again, the plight of displaced, starving citizens, and the measures they will take to survive. The story involves a hostage situation in which a homeless couple, one a former professor, follow a pizza delivery into a typical Budapest apartment, and hold up a family at gunpoint; "The Great Brain Death" portrays a media event in which director Miklos Jancso seems to be making fun of his own reputation as a supreme visualist.
