Fay, the little daughter of the wealthy Van Loans, is a poor little rich girl, deprived of nothing except the affection which she so desperately desires from her parents. On the other hand, Bessie Hunt, the daughter of Van Loan's mining foreman, has few material possessions but thrives on her parents' love. By a remarkable coincidence, the two children look alike, and when they meet by the river's bank and change clothes in play, Bessie is carried away in the auto of the wealthy grandfather while Fay is taken to the foreman's humble cottage. Bessie's happiness soon transforms the Van Loan's gloomy household while Fay responds to the warmth of the Hunt family. When the change is discovered, Fay returns home a contented, happy child and the Van Loans finally realize that love counts much more than money in child rearing.
