Synopsis

Violet Kingston is attacked by tramps, and Mark Cameron, a wealthy socialite, comes to her rescue. Sylvester Hatch, the rich landlord of the building in which the Kingston family is forced to live in reduced circumstances, gives Mark and Violet a ride home and later does everything in his power to further a romance between them, hoping thereby to gain acceptance to high society. Mark soon asks Violet to marry him, but she refuses. Hatch learns of this eventuality and insists that Violet marry him instead. On the day of the wedding, Mark learns that Violet is being railroaded into this repugnant marriage by her avaricious stepmother and kidnaps her, taking her to a justice of the peace to be married. Hatch is found murdered, and Mark is arrested for the crime. The real murderer is quickly discovered, however, and Mark is set free to begin a belated honeymoon.
