Synopsis
As jewel broker Norman Gray disembarks from a train, he notices a group of gangsters laying in wait for him. Norman leaves the train without notice and the gangsters follow Dick Rainey, another passenger who resembles Norman. After fighting off the mobsters, Dick locates Norman's address and meets him. Norman persuades Dick to help him devise a plan by which to get the gangsters: Dick is to divert the gangsters' attention while Norman delivers a packet of uninsured diamonds to the Ferry residence. They assemble the diamonds and a fake packet for Dick to carry. Norman and Dick insert the packets in their jackets and then exchange jackets without realizing their error. Two of the gangsters, Carl and Mac, follow Dick as he drives Norman's car and force him off the road. Dick unwittingly gives up the packet containing the real diamonds to the gangsters and escapes by sliding down the hillside. He lands in front of Audrey Ferry's car, and Audrey thinks Dick is Norman and that he has amnesia, but her misconception is corrected after she calls Norman at his office. Dick exits and goes to Norman's office, but finds him dead. He phones Audrey, but their conversation is interrupted by her screams. At the same time, the police arrive to arrest Dick. Dick escapes and steals a squad car. Carl and Mac, meanwhile, telephone their cohort Ronnie to confirm that they have the jewels, but Audrey overhears the conversation and when Dick arrives, she tells him the location of their hideout. Carl and Mac arrive at the harbor simultaneously with Dick, who eludes them by leaping onto a cargo net that is being transferred to a ship. As Dick continues to fight off the gangsters, the police arrive and arrest the gangsters. Dick returns the jewels and after telling Audrey that he will forego his train trip, presents her with his reward: one diamond.
