Synopsis
Jerry, a lazy extra on the Superba-Prettygood Pictures lot, is in love with Millie, the wardrobe mistress, who is also being courted by Tony, another extra. Von Strogoff, a temperamental German director making a film on the Russian Revolution, finds Jerry useless, but Millie gets him a "closeup" assignment, the prize of all extras. True to form, Jerry falls asleep on a prop bed and is fired. Tony steals some jewels entrusted to Millie and tries to turn them over to a pair of crooks; Jerry follows and is captured by the crooks, but he escapes and chases Tony to the studio. Jerry's battle with Tony is filmed by mistake for Von Strogoff; when the hero produces the jewels he learns they are paste, but his "closeup" is kept in the picture.
